# Install skills

> How to install and use Claude Code skills for the Merge Unified API: onboarding, Merge Link, sync, post-connection, and validation.

Two installs make a coding agent useful on Merge: the Claude Code skill plugin, which walks Claude through the work step by step, and the documentation MCP server, which lets any agent search and read these docs while it works.

## Install the skills

Run these two commands in your terminal:

```bash
claude plugin marketplace add merge-api/merge-unified-skills
claude plugin install merge-unified
```

Restart Claude Code or run `/reload-plugins` to load the skills.

## Invoke a skill

After installing, open Claude Code and invoke a skill directly:

```
/merge-unified:onboarding                       # Signup to first API call to production
/merge-unified:implementing-link                # Add Merge Link to your app
/merge-unified:implementing-sync                # Detect syncs and pull data
/merge-unified:implementing-post-connection     # Build the post-connection experience
/merge-unified:integration-validator            # Verify your integration end to end
```

Or describe what you want, and Claude picks the right skill automatically.

## Install the documentation MCP server

Merge serves this documentation over MCP at `https://docs.merge.dev/_mcp/server`, so a coding agent can search and read the docs while it works instead of relying on what it already knows. The server needs no API key.

**`Claude Code`**

```bash Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http docs-merge-dev https://docs.merge.dev/_mcp/server
```

**`Codex`**

```bash Codex
codex mcp add docs-merge-dev --url https://docs.merge.dev/_mcp/server
```

**`Cursor`**

```json Cursor
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "docs-merge-dev": {
      "url": "https://docs.merge.dev/_mcp/server"
    }
  }
}
```

Any MCP client can connect to the same URL over streamable HTTP.

## First-time setup

#### [Onboarding](https://github.com/merge-api/merge-unified-skills/tree/main/skills/onboarding)

Walk through signup, your first Linked Account, your first API call, syncing, webhooks, and the production checklist.

## Implementation

#### [Implement Merge Link](https://github.com/merge-api/merge-unified-skills/tree/main/skills/implementing-link)

Build the connection flow: the `linked_accounts` table, link-token and token-exchange endpoints, and your Connect button or App Marketplace UI.

#### [Implement sync](https://github.com/merge-api/merge-unified-skills/tree/main/skills/implementing-sync)

Pull data from Merge. A webhook handler covers incremental sync (recommended), with polling as a development starting point and production fallback.

#### [Implement post-connection](https://github.com/merge-api/merge-unified-skills/tree/main/skills/implementing-post-connection)

Build the ongoing integration management surface: settings page, sync status, relinking, field mapping, and data scope filtering.

## Verification

#### [Validate integration](https://github.com/merge-api/merge-unified-skills/tree/main/skills/integration-validator)

Run diagnostic checks against your Merge integration. Get a pass/fail checklist with actionable fixes.
